E-kalathi product list shrinks as prices rise, consumers’ association says

Nicosia, Cyprus. The number of products included in the e-kalathi did not reach 1,000 in the first half of 2026 as forecast, while the list declined from 478 to 476 products and prices increased, the consumers’ association said on Tuesday.

Product list and prices

The association said no new products had been added to the e-kalathi list.

It said that, from March to May 2026, pasta prices rose by 13.8 per cent, flour prices increased by 5.71 per cent and pulses became 4.9 per cent more expensive.

Comparison with Greece

The association contrasted the situation in Cyprus with Greece, where the development minister announced measures that reduced prices in dozens of product categories by up to 6 per cent.

“In Cyprus, we have not seen any measures to hold down prices,” the association said, adding that prices in the same categories had increased instead.

Consumer protection policy

The association said it was concerned that consumer protection policy in Cyprus was suffering not because of a lack of legislation, but because of insufficient determination to implement existing laws effectively.
