TV owners using aerials must switch to DVB-T2 by July 1, deputy digital policy ministry says

Nicosia, Cyprus. Television owners who receive free channels via an aerial have until July 1 to transition to the upgraded European digital technology platform by reprogramming their channels, the deputy digital policy ministry said on Wednesday.

Transition from DVB-T to DVB-T2

The DVB-T platform is being upgraded to DVB-T2, with the transition deadline extended to July to ensure uninterrupted access to television programmes and smoother adaptation before the current platform is withdrawn.

What the upgrade offers

The new platform provides high definition, 4K sound quality, more channels and improved use of frequencies.

What viewers may need to do

For television sets manufactured after 2017 that support DVB-T2, channels will need to be reprogrammed. For older technology, viewers can purchase a decoder costing from €20 to €50, or replace their TV.

Who is affected

The deputy ministry said the changes concern those who receive a signal via an aerial for free channels. Subscription platforms and CyBC channels are not affected.
