Larnaca, Cyprus. A 26-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were remanded in custody for eight days by Larnaca district court on Tuesday in connection with a fire in a forest area of Kornos.
The fire broke out on Sunday and was extinguished by members of the public before it spread.
Fire reported in forest area
At around 7pm on Sunday, people travelling by car in the Kornos area saw two people entering a vehicle and leaving the scene.
They then noticed a fire in a nearby forested area and managed to put it out before it could spread further.
Investigation continues
Police said evidence secured during the investigation led to the arrest of the 26-year-old on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted arson of a forest and other offences.
The 28-year-old woman was later arrested in connection with the same investigation. Both suspects appeared before court on Tuesday.
The Kofinou regional police station is continuing its investigation.
