Sailing courses in Cyprus
Ostria Sailing Academy offers the following Yacht Sailing Courses:
Introduction to Sailing and Yachting
This course is an introduction to yachting and sailing. This two day practical training course will be held on a yacht, and by the end of the course will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, rope work and be aware of safety on board.
Students must be 17 years of age upwards.
ISSA Yacht Crew and Inshore Skipper Course
This course combines theory and practice on the yachts. It’s an introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology, seamanship, sailing, first aid, marine engines etc.
The evening theory classes are held at Nicosia on Mondays and Thursdays, 20.00 – 22.00, and the practical training during Saturdays and Sundays at Larnaca Marina.
Students must be 17 years of age upwards.
The Inshore Skipper’s Certificate is granted after practical examination on a Yacht, and after covering 700 Nautical miles, 20 Marina outings, and 5 night sailings
ISSA Offshore Skipper Course
This course develops on from the navigation and other knowledge acquired on the Inshore Skipper Course. It is intended for yachtsmen who are looking to undertake more complex offshore passages.
It is a demanding theory course covering advanced navigation, meteorology, advanced sailing techniques, passage planning, rules at sea, fire safety, first aid, marine engines etc.
The evening classes are held at Nicosia on Mondays and Thursdays at 19:00 – 22:00, and the practice training during Saturdays and Sundays at Larnaca Marina.
Students must be 17 years of age upwards.
The Offshore Skipper’s Certificate is granted after practical examination on a yacht, and after covering 1,600 nautical miles (minimum two offshore trips), 50 Marina outings and 5 night sailings.
ISSA Master of Yacht Course
This course is focused on candidates that possess the knowledge of the Offshore Skipper, but are more fluent in applying it.
Experience required – prio training: 60 days at sea as a skipper or watch leader in at least 5 voyages, at least in 3 different sea areas, including tidal water (at least one area), and 2 passages over 100 nautical miles as a skipper.
The practical examination is carried out by an ISSA examiner.
Racing Course
The racing course is designed for people that have basic knowledge in sailing and would like to improve their sailing and racing techniques. The course covers the areas in sailing theory, sail trimming, racing rules, race tactics, spinnaker, asymmetric etc.
You will have the opportunity to participate in a race that will be organised for the purpose of the course.
Boat Handling Course
This course is designed for people that have sailing experience but would like to develop boat handling skills with a dedicated Boat Handling Course. The course will concentrate on a range of boat handling skills
Individual Training Course
Ostria Sailing Academy also provides specialised training for groups, according to your needs.
