On Friday night the Coast Guard service of Cyprus has saved 27 migrants who got themselves into trouble near the Akamas peninsula. They arrived to the shores of the island on a fishing boat. The SOS signal was received at 19:15 local time.

According to the Larnaka Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, the ship was 14 nautical miles away from the shores of Akamas. The rescuers found out that the boat is adrift and the decision was made to send two coastal guard ships for the rescue operation. Among the 27 individuals, there were 6 women and 3 children. They were all relocated to the shore, where first aid was provided.

According to the preliminary information, those individuals are of Syrian origin.
