Nicosia, Cyprus. Trade between China and Cyprus reached $1.44 billion (€1.29 billion) in 2025, and participants at a business forum on Tuesday were told that prospects for deeper economic cooperation are even stronger.

Ambassador cites growth and new opportunities

China’s ambassador to Cyprus, Yang Yundong, addressed the forum, which took place in Nicosia and was organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve). He said bilateral trade last year was up 26 per cent compared with 2024.

According to Yang, China became the fourth largest trading partner of Cyprus in 2025. He added that a growing range of Cypriot products, among them halloumi cheese, zivania and fresh juices, are reaching Chinese consumers.

The ambassador pointed to considerable potential for collaboration in shipping, tourism, green technologies and the digital economy. He also underlined that Cyprus could serve as a bridge linking China and the European Union.

Yang said the forum belongs to a series of events marking 55 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations.

Keve calls for concrete business partnerships

Keve chairman Stavros Stavrou stressed that bilateral relations should be turned into specific business partnerships. In his view, Cyprus can function as a gateway for Chinese companies seeking access to the single EU market, drawing on its position at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa.

Stavrou described China as a large market and an international centre for technology, innovation, manufacturing and investment, which offers openings for Cypriot entrepreneurs.

He referred to an upcoming agreement between the Cypriot travel agent Top Kinisis and China’s Zhejiang Overseas (Ningbo) International Travel Service Co.
