Nicosia, Cyprus. Fishery products landed in Cyprus during 2025 had an estimated value of €4.03 million, Eurostat reported on Monday. Across the EU, landings were worth €5.5 billion, broadly unchanged from the preceding year.

Spain leads in value and weight

Eurostat estimated that the EU fleet caught 3.3m tonnes during 2025 across seven marine regions included in European statistics.

Spain led the bloc by both measures, representing 31 per cent of landings by value and 21 per cent by weight. France contributed 18 per cent of the value, with Italy at 12 per cent. By landed weight, Denmark followed Spain at 16 per cent, ahead of France at 14 per cent.

Northeast Atlantic dominates landings

The figures showed that 72 per cent of fishery products landed across the EU in 2025 came from the Northeast Atlantic. Herring represented 18 per cent of that region’s catch, followed by blue whiting at 17 per cent, sprat at 15 per cent and mackerel at 9 per cent.

The Mediterranean and Black Sea together ranked second, providing 8 per cent of the overall EU catch. Within that region, sardines made up 19 per cent and anchovies 16 per cent.

A further 7 per cent of the EU catch came from the Western Indian Ocean. Skipjack tuna represented 58 per cent of catches there, while yellowfin tuna contributed 29 per cent and bigeye tuna 7 per cent, according to Eurostat.
