Cyprus industrial turnover rises 3.5 per cent in May

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ Industrial Turnover Index rose by 3.5 per cent year-on-year in May 2026 to 148 units, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat). The index increased by 3.4 per cent in the first five months of the year compared with the same period in 2025.

Index methodology

The figures use 2021 as the base year and measure monthly changes in turnover against the average monthly turnover recorded that year.

Manufacturing performance

Manufacturing remained the main contributor to industrial turnover, with its index reaching 151.4 units in May, an annual increase of 2.6 per cent. Manufacturing turnover rose by 3.5 per cent year-on-year between January and May.

Sector developments

Furniture, other manufacturing, and the repair and installation of machinery and equipment recorded the strongest annual increase within manufacturing in May, with turnover up 14.6 per cent. The category was nevertheless down 1.9 per cent over the first five months of the year.

Turnover in the manufacture of wood and wood and cork products, excluding furniture, increased by 9.9 per cent in May and by 20 per cent between January and May.

Basic metals and fabricated metal products rose by 7.3 per cent in May and by 9.7 per cent over the five-month period.

Refined petroleum products, chemicals, chemical products, and pharmaceutical products and preparations increased by 6.9 per cent in May, while their turnover rose by 1.7 per cent during the January-May period.

Rubber and plastic products recorded a 3.3 per cent increase in May and a 4.4 per cent rise over the first five months of the year.
