Cyprus petroleum product sales return to growth in July

Nicosia, Cyprus. Petroleum product sales in Cyprus returned to annual growth in July, rising 1.3 per cent to 146,656 tonnes, according to figures released on Thursday by the state statistical service, Cystat. Sales were also 13.3 per cent higher than in June.


Sales recovery and fuel prices

The July result marked a turnaround from June, when petroleum product sales fell 8 per cent year on year to 129,479 tonnes.

Fuel price growth in Cyprus slowed considerably in July, although prices remained higher than a year earlier. Eurostat reported that fuels and lubricants for personal transport were 9.9 per cent more expensive in July than in the same month of 2025, compared with annual increases of 18.6 per cent in June and 20.5 per cent in May.

Across the EU, prices rose 16.9 per cent year on year. Cyprus recorded one of the bloc’s largest monthly price declines between June and July, with diesel prices down 7.9 per cent, the steepest fall in the EU, and petrol prices down 5.4 per cent, behind Sweden’s 11.1 per cent decline.

Annual changes by product category

Cystat recorded annual increases in most petroleum product categories. Heavy fuel oil sales rose 166.9 per cent to 1,572 tonnes, while kerosene sales increased 93.6 per cent to 91 tonnes.

Gasoil for agricultural use rose 44.0 per cent to 2,283 tonnes, while light fuel oil increased 20.1 per cent to 5,551 tonnes. Liquefied petroleum gas sales rose 7.3 per cent to 3,928 tonnes, and unleaded motor gasoline increased 6.2 per cent to 34,129 tonnes.

Road diesel sales rose 5.5 per cent to 35,945 tonnes, while asphalt sales increased 4.4 per cent to 4,840 tonnes. Aviation kerosene remained the largest individual category by volume, with provisions rising 3.2 per cent to 41,993 tonnes.

Marine gasoil provisions fell 35.3 per cent to 11,786 tonnes. Heating gasoil sales were down 0.1 per cent to 4,189 tonnes, while lubricant sales remained at 347 tonnes and aviation gasoline sales were unchanged at two tonnes.

Monthly comparison and stocks

Aviation kerosene provisions rose 25.1 per cent from June, while road diesel sales increased 13.3 per cent and motor gasoline sales rose 10.4 per cent. Marine gasoil provisions declined 25.9 per cent from the previous month.

Petroleum product stocks increased 14.3 per cent at the end of July compared with the end of June, reversing a 19.6 per cent monthly decline recorded at the end of the previous month.

Filling station sales

Sales at filling stations reached 66,187 tonnes in July, up 5.9 per cent from 62,497 tonnes in July 2025. Unleaded motor gasoline remained the largest category, rising 6.2 per cent to 33,748 tonnes, while road diesel sales increased 4.2 per cent to 28,290 tonnes.
