Washington, United States. Cyprus highlighted opportunities for business and financial technology during an international blockchain summit spanning September 29 to October 2 in Washington and New York. Government representatives joined debates covering digital assets, regulatory policy and innovation across borders.

Business outreach and technology debates

The Republic of Cyprus was represented by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry through its New York Trade Centre at The Future of Money, Governance, and the Law 2026.

Organised by the Government Blockchain Association, an international non-profit organisation, the gathering attracted senior policymakers, investors, technology specialists and business leaders. Its agenda examined how artificial intelligence, blockchain and quantum computing affect global governance and financial infrastructure, as well as regulatory frameworks and digital assets.

An information stand run by the New York Trade Centre showcased Cyprus as a European hub for business, highlighting opportunities in innovation and financial technology, or fintech. The centre also briefed visitors about the island’s regulatory and business conditions and the benefits companies based there can access through Cyprus’ membership of the European Union’s single market.

Round-table discussion at US Capitol

Aristos Constantinou, Cyprus’ Trade Counsellor in New York, joined American officials and industry representatives for a round-table discussion at the US Capitol.

Charles Hoskinson, who co-founded Ethereum and founded Cardano, was among the participants. The discussion addressed regulation, digital sovereignty and innovation across borders.

Closing forum at United Nations

The summit ended with an October 2 forum at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where participants considered how emerging technologies influence financial systems.

Constantinou served on a panel with digital assets entrepreneur and investor Michael Terpin and Anthony Howell, director and representative of the government of Bermuda in Washington.
