Nicosia, Cyprus. Revenue from tourism in Cyprus fell by 3.4 per cent year-on-year in August to €562 million, the statistical service (Cystat) reported on Friday. Fewer arrivals and shorter stays outweighed a rise in what visitors spent each day.

August results

Earnings in August 2025 were €581.8m, so the sector took in €19.8m less this year. Arrivals fell from 602,026 to 581,880 over the same period.

Spending per tourist was almost flat at €965.81, against €966.41 a year earlier. The average stay shortened from 9.2 days to 8.9 days, but daily spending per visitor rose from €105.04 to €108.52.

Year-to-date and July figures

For the first eight months of 2026, tourism revenue totalled €2.32 billion, which is 6.2 per cent below the €2.47bn recorded in the same period of 2025.

August followed a stronger July, when revenue grew by 4.6 per cent to €536.5m. That increase was driven by higher visitor spending, even though arrivals were slightly lower.

Main source markets

The United Kingdom remained the largest market for Cyprus, making up 30.5 per cent of all arrivals. Israel followed with 23.3 per cent and Poland with 6.3 per cent.

British arrivals declined from 193,091 in August 2025 to 177,603 this year, and their average stay shortened from 10.6 days to 10.2 days. Per-person spending by British visitors dropped from €1,195.02 to €1,062.12, while their daily spending went down from €112.74 to €104.13.

Arrivals from Israel rose sharply, from 105,597 to 135,628, consolidating its place as the second-largest source of tourists for Cyprus.
