EU alcoholic beer exports fall 11% in 2025 as imports rise

Brussels, Belgium. European Union exports of alcoholic beer to non-EU countries fell by 11% in 2025, while imports from outside the bloc increased by 6%, Eurostat reported on Friday.

The statistical release coincided with International Beer Day, which is observed annually on the first Friday of August.

Extra-EU trade

EU shipments of alcoholic beer to countries outside the bloc totalled 3.2 billion litres in 2025, down from the previous year.

Imports of alcoholic beer from non-EU countries reached 0.5 billion litres.

Leading exporters

Belgium was the EU’s largest beer exporter, shipping 1.5 billion litres to intra-EU and extra-EU destinations.

The Netherlands exported 1.4 billion litres, followed by Germany with 1.3 billion litres. Czechia and Ireland each exported 0.6 billion litres.

Leading importers

France was the largest importer of alcoholic beer within the EU in 2025, receiving 0.9 billion litres.

Italy imported more than 0.7 billion litres, while Germany and Spain each imported 0.6 billion litres. The Netherlands imported 0.3 billion litres.
