Limassol, Cyprus. Water in the Garyllis riverbed below Spyrou Kyprianou avenue contains no sewage and is not coming from district authority facilities, the Limassol local government organisation (EOA) said on Wednesday.

Water source identified

Responding to public concerns about water appearing and flowing in the river, EOA issued a statement identifying its source as a desalination plant run by the Water Development Department. The organisation said the department also has responsibility for rivers.

EOA said its explanation was intended to inform residents and avoid confusion or unwarranted concern about where the river water comes from and its quality.

Public information priorities

The organisation added that it remained committed to supplying accurate information responsibly, especially on issues involving the environment, public health, protection of the marine environment and management of water resources.
