Kato Drys, Cyprus. A 45-year-old man suffered minor burns to his shoulder after lightning struck near him while he was leaving a chapel in Kato Drys on Saturday.

The Sri Lankan national was taken to Larnaca General Hospital’s accident and emergency department, where he underwent examinations and tests. His condition was described as good.


Incident near chapel

Larnaca deputy police chief George Foukaris said the incident occurred at about 1pm as the man was attempting to enter a car with two other people when lightning struck nearby.

Hospital assessment

Okypy spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said the man appeared to have been struck by lightning.
