Nicosia, Cyprus. A 22-year-old woman stabbed multiple times at a supermarket in Nicosia last month has been left paralysed and is dependent on a machine for breathing, according to Dr Burhan Nalbantoglu hospital chief physician Hasan Birtan.

He said Zhanerke Abdrazakova suffered irreversible spinal cord damage and would spend the rest of her life bedridden.

Medical condition

Birtan told Yeniduzen on Monday that Abdrazakova has no movement or feeling in her hands and feet. He said she remains conscious but has serious neurological problems resulting from the spinal cord damage sustained during the attack.

Her mother and siblings, who are from Kyrgyzstan, are now in Cyprus and have received caregiving training, he added.

Suspect remains in custody

The 31-year-old suspect has been charged with attempted premeditated murder and aggravated assault. He last appeared in court on August 14 and was ordered to remain in custody for up to three months pending trial.

The incident took place inside the Metropol supermarket in the Taskinkoy suburb shortly before midday on August 3. The man allegedly stabbed Abdrazakova before stabbing himself.

Previous court testimony

At an earlier hearing, the court was told that the suspect attacked Abdrazakova after she ended their relationship, which had begun in January.

A police officer told the court last month that Abdrazakova began working at a nightclub in July and that the suspect travelled to Cyprus after learning this. He rented a villa in the Kyrenia district and allegedly arranged for her to visit on July 31.

According to the officer, Abdrazakova ended the relationship during the visit and left the villa with assistance from her employer.
