The government of Cyprus will impose strict punishment for sporting violatations

The Ministry of Justice is preparing a proposal which will amend the current legislation and will impose punishment for “fixed matches” which will be 7 years of imprisonment and fine of 300,000 Euros. Bribery in sport will be punished by 5 years of imprisonment and fine of 100,000 Euros.

Ionas Nicolaou said that such strict measures became necessary reaction to what is happening in the current football season.

The new legislation will be applicable to all sports and will contain a codex which will be accepted by all professionals and members of the complaints committee.
