Nicosia, Cyprus. Police arrested three drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol following three unrelated collisions in Nicosia and Limassol overnight on Saturday.

Crash in the Idali industrial area

The first collision took place shortly after 7pm on Saturday in the Idali industrial area. A 48-year-old man drove into a vehicle that was stopped at a red light, and the impact pushed it into a third vehicle. His alcohol reading was almost four times above the legal limit, and he was arrested at the scene.

Streetlamp struck in Limassol

Shortly before midnight, a 35-year-old man lost control of his car close to the Mesa Yeitonia roundabout in Limassol and struck a streetlamp, which came down onto the road. Police took him in, but he did not provide an adequate sample for the concluding test, and he was then arrested.

Hit-and-run in Engomi

At 12.30am, an 18-year-old motorist on Griva Digeni Avenue in Engomi was struck by another car, whose driver left the scene. Police located the vehicle soon afterwards and established that a 45-year-old man had been at the wheel. He was arrested shortly after.

Separate case in Paphos

In Paphos, officers stopped a car in the town centre at about 8.40pm on Saturday after it went through a traffic signal. The driver, aged 17, held a learner’s licence and was not accompanied by a licensed driver, and the car had no valid insurance. A preliminary drug test came back positive, and his driving licence was confiscated.
