Nicosia, Cyprus. A visit to Umami Sushi Pan-Asian at a mall focused on its sushi selection, bao buns and main dishes, with customers using the mall’s shared seating area.

Ordering and setting

Umami operates as a standalone mall outlet without a separate indoor dining area. Diners sit in the mall’s public seating area, while orders are placed at the counter rather than through table service.

The kitchen is visible behind the serving counter, where staff were working during the visit.

Sushi and bao buns

The meal began with spicy tuna maki, rainbow rolls and duck maple bao buns. The bao buns were served warm, with a soft and slightly springy bun. The filling was described as pleasant, though it did not provide the same impact as the bun itself.

The rainbow rolls featured fresh sashimi wrapped around maki. The rolls were tightly assembled and remained intact when picked up with chopsticks.

The spicy tuna maki had a moderate level of spice that did not overpower the tuna, with a generous amount of filling in each roll.

Main course

The main dishes ordered were sweet and sour chicken and chicken pad Thai. The sweet and sour chicken arrived piping hot and had cooled to a suitable temperature by the time it was eaten.

The chicken had a substantial texture, while the sauce balanced sweetness and acidity.
