Wall collapses during excavation works in Ayios Dometios

Nicosia, Cyprus. A section of wall surrounding a block of flats in Ayios Dometios collapsed on Friday during excavation works for the foundations of a neighbouring building.

Investigation launched

The Nicosia district government organisation (EOA) said the incident occurred on Pentadaktylos Street and that it immediately launched an investigation into the safety measures in place during the works.

EOA crews attended the scene and are in contact with the engineers of the project and the affected block of flats.

Structural assessment

The organisation said it will conduct a static adequacy study of the affected building to determine whether the wall collapse has affected its structural safety.

The Nicosia EOA said it will provide further information as it becomes available.
