Marianthi Konstantinidi from an early age comprehended the secrets of art, such as hand-painted icons and frescoes, helping her father, George Konstantinidis, in his studio.
The family tradition of iconography began in 1961. George studied at the Pedagogical Academy Marasleio in Athens, and during his studies he took lessons in painting and iconography based on Byzantine art in Sarafianos studio, where he met with Greek artists, painters and Fotis Nikolaos Prisnovali Kontoglu. On Mount Athos (known as the “Holy Mountain”), George Konstantinidis continued learning the art of icon painting and then returned to Cyprus, where he became an inspector of art in primary schools.
Watching her father work and permeate the art of Byzantine iconography Marianthi Laniteio, after high school, continued the family business by enrolling at Empire University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts.
Since 1998, the iconographer Marianthi Konstantinidi works in her own studio at Chrysorrogiatissa monastery in Paphos. Her handmade icons can be seen in churches and temples not only in Cyprus, but also in various countries around the world.
Relatively recently, Marianthi Chrysokondylia opened a new shop in Limassol where you can buy icons, including custom-made.
Chrysokondylia’s workshop in Limassol co-operates with experienced artists and painters, and presents works such as handmade icons and religious objects based on the traditional Byzantine technique, using high quality natural materials.
Creating icons is an art on which work is carried out in several stages:
Chrysokondylia’s workshop, Cyprus, accepts orders for iconostasis and all kinds of icons, including hand-carved woodwork and icons as gifts for christenings or weddings, as well as restoration work.
You can purchase the icons from stores in Limassol and Paphos, or make a reservation for the icon you are interested in if you do not live on the island.
Your order may remain illuminated in the Chrysorrogiatissa monastery for 40 days, after which it will be delivered to you wherever you live.
Shipping may vary depending on the destination.
