Andreas Yiasemides appointed University of Cyprus council chairman

Nicosia, Cyprus. PwC Cyprus chief executive Andreas Yiasemides has been appointed chairman of the council of the University of Cyprus for a three-year term. The appointment was made by the Cabinet and ratified by the University Senate.


Appointment and responsibilities

Yiasemides said the appointment was a significant responsibility and described it as an honour to serve as chairman of the university council.

“I take on this responsibility with humility, commitment and a genuine desire to support the University’s continued progress,” he said.

He said higher education plays a vital role in shaping Cyprus’ future and that he intends to work with council members, the Rector, the Senate and the wider university community for the benefit of students and society.

University priorities

During his term, Yiasemides will work with the university’s leadership on its long-term development and strategic priorities, particularly in education, research and innovation.

PwC Cyprus initiatives

PwC Cyprus said it has supported education, innovation and youth development through the PwC Foundation and initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation between academia and the business community.

According to the firm, these efforts are part of its commitment to developing future talent and supporting the long-term competitiveness of the Cypriot economy.
