Cyprus switched to winter time and will celebrate new year twice

Nicosia became the only capital city in the world with two time zones.

Traditionally, Cyprus switches the clocks 1 hour backwards on the last Sunday of October. However, this year, the switch has separated the island into two time zones. Now Cyprus is divided into South, where the daylight saving principles still apply and into North, where the clocks were not changed. The relevant decision was made by the Turkish authorities for economical reasons.

Regardless of all practical inconveniences, the residents of the capital, who live in the two time zones, manged to find the positive features of the situation and they are planning to celebrate the New Year twice!
