Ayia Napa, Cyprus. A 19-year-old man suspected of involvement in 11 burglary and theft cases was remanded in custody for eight days by the Famagusta district court, sitting in Larnaca, on Sunday.
Arrest and seized items
Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after 1am on Saturday after receiving information about a person acting suspiciously in a hotel lobby in Ayia Napa.
Famagusta police officers arrived at the scene and found the man leaving a hotel room. They stopped him and found a shoulder bag containing €315 in cash, a wallet and two gold chains.
Police said the man was unable to provide satisfactory explanations for possessing the items and was arrested at the scene.
Further investigation
Following further investigations, police identified the 19-year-old as a suspect in 10 additional burglaries in Ayia Napa during the same period.
Police investigations are continuing.
