Application for political asylum has been rejected

The Cyprus authorities have rejected the application for political asylum made by the hijacker of the EgyptAir aircraft.

Saif El-Din Mustafa was arrested on 29th of March for hijacking of the Egyptian airplane, which departed from Alexandria and was supposed to land in Cairo, but after hijacking landed in Larnaca.

The Court hearing on his case was held on 13th of May in Nicosia and the decision was made to extend the consideration of case for extradition to Egypt.

According to his lawyer, the Cyprus authorities have classified his case as a very serious offence.
