Larnaca, Cyprus. A 29-year-old man died following a traffic collision on the Kelia Troulloi Road on Monday, police said. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

Collision and injuries

The victim, Georgios Georgiou, was riding a motorcycle at about 7.25pm when it collided with a car driven by a 28-year-old woman.

A 32-year-old man was travelling in the passenger seat of the car, while two children aged four and two were seated in the rear.

Georgiou and the car’s occupants were taken by ambulance to Larnaca general hospital. Georgiou was pronounced dead, while the four occupants of the car received first aid and were later discharged.

Police investigation

Police said preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle crossed into the oncoming lane while entering a bend and collided head-on with the car.

Georgiou, a father of two young children, worked at the Larnaca district local government organisation (EOA).

Preliminary examinations indicated that he was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the collision.

The car driver underwent breathalyser and drug tests, both of which were negative.
