Celebrations of the Cosmonautics Day

Tuesday 11^th and Wednesday 12^th of April

The Russian Science and Culture Centre in Nicosia, with support of the Embassy of Russian Federation in the Republic of Cyprus and of Honorary Consul Mr. Georgis Prodromou, will host the celebration event dedicated to the Cosmonautics Day.

The Cosmonautics Day- a special date in the history of Russia and whole of mankind. On 12th of April 1961 Yuri Gagarin made the first orbital flight above the Earth in the spaceship “Vostok”. The Epic flight lasted 108 minutes and opened the new era for the humanity – era of space exploration.

The event will consist of series of activities of cultural, scientific and educational nature, which signify the desire of humanity to the technical progress.

Programme of events on the 11^th of April:

• Commemoration ceremony at the Yuri Gagarin memorial in Nicosia;
• Meeting with the famous artists from the leading theatres of Russia;
• Opening of the exhibition, which is dedicate to the history of space exploration and prominent space explorers.;
• Meeting with famous astronaut Alexander Volkov;
• Video message from the current team at the International Space Station from the Earth’s orbit;
• Presentation of the engineering club at the Russian Science and Culture Centre.;
• “Trip to the stars” – exploration of the sky through telescope.
