“Don Giovanni” is Mozart’s two-act opera and its libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte. The opera premiered at the Estates Theatre in Prague on 29th of October 1787. Da Ponte’s libretto was considered, like many of its time, as drama giocoso, a term which is used to describe the combination of serious and comic actions.

In this tremendous work, which impressively incarnates the ideas of Romanticism with the use of music, so that things are not what they seem to be:  the ambiguity permeates both the poetic text and the music. The intense dramatic music which highlights the elements of a mental battle is interweaver with accompanies the with the lighthearted, everyday reverberation of the comic characters.

The plot takes place in Seville (Spain), in the 17th century and describes the erotic adventures of the licentious Spanish nobleman Don Giovanni who seduces and frequently insults the feeling of women who he encounter up until the moment when he surprisingly meets a woman whom he cannot avoid, outwit or even kill. During one of his adventures he attempts to rape Donna Anna, whoever he faces her father who stands up fo his daughter. While fleeing, he kills her father, who then returns from the dead to take his vengeance. Since Don Giovanni does not repent for his actions, so he end up in hell.
