H1N1

During the Christmas period, the Emergency department of the Nicosia hospital has recorded a rapid increase in the number of patients with flu and gastroenteritis. The Deputy Head of the hospital Mr. Andreas Eliades said that 80% of the patients were diagnosed with virus infection.

The similar cases were registered in hospital in Paphos as well. Doctors explained this tendency with the participation of the patients in the public events.

Furthermore, the head of the Infectious diseases department of the Ministry of Health Mrs. Maria Koliou stated that during the last week of December in Cyprus, the first cases of flu H1N1 were registered.

Doctors are urging the public to perform timely vaccination against the flu, which will not only protect from H1N1, but also will help to stop the spreading of the disease.
