Security of the Embassy of Russian Federation in Cyprus has been reinforced

The security measures in the Embassy of Russia in Cyprus were reinforced. The relevant statement was made by the Ambassador of Russia to Cyprus Mr. Stanislav Osadchii during the exclusive interview to our radio station.

He added that the relevant instructions were received from Moscow. Also the Head of Cyprus police called to Ambassador and offered additional help.

The reinforcement of the security became necessary after terrorist attack in Ankara, where the Ambassador of Russia to Turkey Mr. Andrei Karlov was murdered. This act was condemned by many countries, including Cyprus. The local Ministry of Foreign Affairs called it “a disgusting act of violence”.

Mr. Andrei Karlov was murdered by shots in the back during the opening ceremony of the photography exhibition. Terrorist was eliminated, but he managed to shout out that this murder is revenge for operation in Aleppo.

The Embassy of Russia in Cyprus put up a book for condolences. Stanislav Osadchii called the murder as Barbarian act and expressed his condolences to the relatives of late Andrei Karlov.

New Mayor in Limassol. Unexpected results of the municipal elections.

The elections of the municipal heads and Mayors of cities in Cyprus resulted in unexpected results. From now on, Limassol will be governed by Nicos Nicolaidis – he managed to overcome the previous mayor Andreas Chrisou, by just 10 votes.

Larnaca will also have the new mayor – Andreas Viras is celebrating victory there. According to experts, the unexpected results were caused by the political indifference of Cyprus – the interest of the public for elections was very low. Just over 62% of population casted their vote.

The Court found doctors guilty

The District Court of Limassol sided with the patient. Woman, who got the wrong diagnosis will get 500,000 Euros compensation from the private clinic.

This case goes on since 2009. The doctors have mistaken minor heart attack for myocardial infarction. They have realised their mistake after 15 hours, however damage to the patient was already done.

The patient has survived and sued the clinic. After carefully examining the materials of the case, the judge found doctors guilty of negligence and ruled to pay 0,5 million Euros compensation.

New archeological discovery in Paphos

Another important discovery was made during excavations near Paphos. The scientists managed to find a room of ancient doctor. The ancient medical tools from bronze and iron, as well as glass vessels and bulbs were found.

The room was, probably, destroyed by an earthquake at the beginning of the second century. It is worth to note that the tools are very similar to those, which were found in Pompeii.

Another archeological discovery near Paphos – remains of the ancient theatre were found. According to the preliminary evaluation, it was built in the 3rd century AD.

Residents of Cyprus are celebrating one of the most important Christian events.

Cyprus is celebrating Christmas. The local Orthodox church is celebrating it on the 25th of December, which is different form the Russian church.

It is a holiday period on the island- customarily, Cypriots are using their free time for meetings with friends and relatives. Every house arranges for generous meals. Those, who cannot afford to celebrate, are assisted by volunteers from the charity organisations of the island, which collected gift for such families.

All cities are illuminated and a true Christmas village was opened in Limassol, which is full of festive spirit.
