Ayios Ioannis Pitsilias Gastronomy Festival to honour Chef Andreas Mavrommatis

Ayios Ioannis Pitsilias, Cyprus. The seventh Ayios Ioannis Pitsilias Gastronomy Festival will take place on August 30, dedicated to the late Chef Andreas Mavrommatis and his culinary journey from the village to Paris.

Tribute to Chef Mavrommatis

Chefs from the Mavromati restaurants in Paris will attend the festival to present signature recipes created by Chef Andreas Mavrommatis over the years.

A dedication at the Municipal Library will trace his journey from Ayios Ioannis to Paris, where he began his culinary career and helped place Mediterranean cooking on the fine-dining map.

Food demonstrations

The festival will begin at 11am with a live link with Kanali 6. From 11.30am until the afternoon, visitors will be able to watch the preparation of Cypriot pastries in traditional ovens, including halloumi pies, olive pies and different breads.

Local chefs will also prepare halloumi, trahanas, palouzes and pies, while a zivania distillation demonstration will be held. The village’s grandmothers will cook traditional recipes during the event.

Music and activities

An afternoon tour of the 17th-century church is planned, followed by traditional music and dance performances. Singers Vasiliki Hadjiadamou and Sotiris Petsas will also perform.

The festival will be held at the Central Square in Agios Ioannis Pitsilia, Limassol district, from 11.30am to midnight. Admission is free.
