Football fans arrested in Limassol

Six football fans were detained by police in connection with the night riots in Limassol. Police is taking preventive measures not to allow further clashes between football club fans. Usually, fans of the following football clubs are involved in riots – “AEL” and “Apollo” in Limassol and “OMONIA” and “APOEL” in Nicosia.

On Tuesday evening, Limassol fans of two rival teams organised riots in Kanika area and significantly damaged the facade of Orpheus Luxury Travel & Tours office.

The police arrived only an hour later, when the office suffered serious damage. To suppress the hooligans police had to use tear gas. Director and owner of the office Roman Starikovich, who is also a honorary consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Cyprus, is outraged by what happened. In the statement he posted in social media and Facebook, he noted that “vandalism and violence have nothing common with sports.”
